Sample Resume Objective - How to Write a Resume Objective Statement
77
Many people have been affected by the current economic downturn and high unemployment. Finding jobs is difficult at best. The old rule of thumb was it takes approximately one month for every $10,000 of earnings to find a job. For example, if you made $50,000, it would take approximately 5 months to land a job. I’m sure those numbers are much higher today.
When putting together a resume it is important to be clear about your personal objective. The objective statement is important because it gives the person reviewing the resume some insight into what your employment goals are. These statements can help tell the story of what exactly you want to do and how you can contribute to the success of the organization - and if done right can catch the eyes of trained recruiters.
The goal of a objective statement is to describe in a few sentences the objective or goal of the employment experience. It should be as explicit as possible and geared toward the specific position you are applying for.
In other words, what do you want to achieve in a new position? Or how do you think you can add value to an organization with your experience and skills? The objective statement should describe in a few words what exactly you bring to the table and why the organization needs what you have to offer.
A few pointers for a good resume objective statement:
- Be specific about what your goals are;
- Keep the statement to no more than two sentences;
- Remember that hiring managers are busy so you want to communicate quickly and precisely;
- Explain how you can benefit the organization, not necessarily what the organization can do for you.
So what are some samples of objective statements?

It is vital to spend ample time fine tuning your resume to ensure it “sells” the knowledge, experience and accomplishments that you bring to the table.
