Federal Grants for Nonprofits
One of the biggest challenges for nonprofit organizations is funding. Most nonprofits depend on outside resources to support operating expenses. Finding the resources to manage the operation in order to fulfill the vision of the organization can be a daunting task.
Many nonprofits use federal grants as a source of revenue for their operation. I stumbled upon a website that is a great resource that can help identify available government grant money. Grants.gov has information on over 1000 grant programs and offers nonprofit organizations access to an estimated $500 billion dollars worth of grant money.
There are more than 1000 grant programs that are broken down into 21 different categories. These grant programs are offered through 26 grant making agencies.
The grant process is streamlined and takes the applicant through four application steps. 1. Download the application, 2. Complete the application, 3. Submit the application and 4. Track the application. The application is downloadable and allows the applicant to complete it offline to allow for organizational review before final submission.
The applicant will be required to create a login username and password to access the application site. Once the application is submitted, the applicant can track the status as the application goes through the approval process.
Submitting an application may be time well spent if being awarded a federal grant is the outcome of the exercise.
If you operate a nonprofit organization this may be a great resource to help identify federal funding dollars.
